Michigan Winter Wonderland

As a Realtor® i’m often asked about moving in the winter. I’ve heard the concerns, the weather is bad, the kids are in school, the holiday’s are coming.  But in reality home buying in the off season is one of the smartest decisions you can make. People have different reasons for moving, a new job, relationship, or maybe just starting over. This may be just the right moment to strike and find that dream home, or showcase your beautiful holiday decorations in that listing.Inventory is often lower during the off season but typically buyers are still looking homes allowing for some potentially great negotiations. Remember this is potentially the largest most emotionally intense decision that people make.  A good agent understands this and should offer you solutions and reassurance in the process. We are lucky to have so many great services available to clients to help with their move especially in inclement weather in Metro Detroit.

If you need a recommendation on movers, supplies,or home improvement contractors, send me a note or sign up and I’ll send along a list of vendors I like to use. Until next time, have a great week.

Shhh, don’t tell everyone about this place.

You know that local place you just take for granted because they’ve always just been there?  For me, Bolyard Lumber in Birmingham is just that place.  Yes I’m just as guilty as everyone else and go to the big box stores.  They are just so “convenient” and their prices can’t be beat right?  Not so fast.  I was at the yard a couple days ago and I guy came in for some fasteners because his job was just around the corner and didn’t want to drive far and when he heard the total he was shocked to find out it was actually cheaper to buy from this store than the big place a few miles away.  It made me chuckle because I had discovered their top quality and very competitive prices years ago from a local builder.  As far as selection and service there isn’t anyone in the area that can beat them on that.  I picked up some Western Red Cedar that I needed for a project and i’ll tell you every time I left the yard with my latest batch of material, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face it was so pretty.  They have helped me with great advice over the years and I can recommend them without reservation.  Check out their website at www.bolyardlumber.com/

Detroit Thanksgiving Day Parade

jonlongthanksgivingdetroit2016Thanksgiving is only a couple days away and with it brings one of my favorite things to do (other than eat turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing…well you get it) that’s watching the parade.  This year marks the 90th anniversary for the parade and no doubt this year will be one of the best ever.  As many of you are aware, Woodward Ave is undergoing some major reconstruction for the new mass transit system.  Although some parts of the route will not be accessable, authorities have assured us it will not affect the festivities.  I suggest getting there early if you plan on attending either the Turkey Trot (sponsered by The Parade Company) or the Parade itself.  Hopefully I’ll see you there.
